Comprehensive Eye & Vision Exams
COMPREHENSIVE EXAMS
A comprehensive eye exam can do more than test your vision—it could help save your life. Regular eye exams by a doctor of optometry play an essential role in maintaining your overall health and could detect potentially life-threatening conditions such as brain tumors, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
WHEN DO I NEED AN EYE EXAM?
Infants and Toddlers (Birth to 24 months): Should undergo their first eye examination between the ages of 6 and 9 months.
Preschool Children (2 to 5 years): Should undergo at least one eye examination between the ages of 2 and 5 years.
School Age Children (6 to 19 years): Should undergo an eye examination annually.
Adults (20 to 39 years): Should undergo an eye examination every 2 to 3 years.
Adults (40 to 64 years): Should undergo an eye examination every 2 years.
Adults (65 years or older): Should undergo an eye examination annually.
ADULT & SENIOR EXAMS
Annual eye exams are essential to ensure your ocular health isn’t affected by eye diseases such as macular degeneration and glaucoma. Most patients would not be aware of such diseases until they experience significant vision loss. Regular eye exams allow for the detection and management of ocular diseases.
WHAT IS ASSESSED AT A COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM?
- Vision and prescription
- Ocular health
- Eye movement and alignment
- Colour vision and depth perception
- Ocular pressures
CHILDREN EXAMS
Did you know that 80% of what children learn is visual, and approximately 25% of children experience vision problems that can affect their learning and reading abilities? Some eye conditions develop at an early age, long before a child is able to verbally express concerns. Regular eye exams allow us to monitor vision and manage ocular health to prevent complications in later life.
Did you know that BC MSP fully covers children annually for eye exams!

FITTINGS:
- After you’ve had a recent eye exam or have a valid spectacle prescription, our doctors will determine a contact lens trial prescription for you.
- A one-on-one training on proper insertion, removal, and care of your new contact lenses is completed. When successful, you will be sent home with trial contact lenses to try for 1-2 weeks, and be booked for a follow-up visit with the doctor.
- At the follow-up visit, our doctors will re-assess and verify the fit, comfort, ocular health, and make tweaks if necessary.
- If you and the doctor are happy with fit and vision then you can place an order!
